A team of architects and designers set out to break the mold of the historically staid downtown Boston hotel scene with the recent $24 million transformation of the The Millennium Bostonian Hotel – by reinterpreting regional influences, and turning traditional colonial design on its head.
Jinnie Kim Design of Boston and CCS Architecture of New York used floating ceilings and wood-stained millwork to bring a design-forward statement to the rooms and public areas.
And the piece d’resistance: modern lines and reinterpretation take hold of a suggested colonial lantern arrangement – six foot tall custom linen pendant fixtures – as the set piece to the property’s North 26 restaurant. Here, signature dishes like Bananas Foster-French Toast, Lobster Devilled Eggs, and New England Shellfish Stew will keep tourists and locals alike coming back for the sustainably sourced, local cuisine, while the zebra wood blinds and a walnut screen walls provide intimacy from the surrounding hotel.
