Nantucket’s White Elephant Opens Residences

By Pardhasaradhi Gonuguntla

Rental homes, timeshares, hotels, B&Bs – at first glance there appears to be no shortage of luxurious accommodations on Nantucket. Nantucket Island Resorts is renowned for its luxury properties, including White Elephant, a landmark hotel that has been welcoming guests since the 1920s. In May, the hotel opens 25 brand new Hotel Residences as a natural extension of the White Elephant’s service and hospitality. The one-, two-, and three-bedroom residences are perfect for couple’s getaways and extended family vacations. Guests of the Hotel Residences benefit from the comforts of White Elephant while maintaining a sense of independence and convenience in their “home away from home.”

White Elephant Hotel Residence reflects the historic look of traditional Nantucket homes – from the exterior, onlookers see a village of quintessential New England-style cottages, while the interiors designed by highly-acclaimed Alexandra Champalimaud, blend classic Nantucket style with a distinct European touch. Each Hotel Residence offers bedrooms featuring linens by Gayle Warwick Fine Linen and a spacious living room with a gas fireplace, and a flat-screen high-definition TV with Blu-Ray/DVD player. The Hotel Residences are also equipped with a dining area and a custom-designed pantry outfitted with a Sub-Zero refrigerator, panini maker, convection oven, microwave, Bosch dishwasher, and Royal Doulton china. Many of the Hotel Residences offer porches and decks to provide the ultimate in chic island comfort.

At the Hotel Residences, guests have access to the same hospitality and service that those of the White Elephant have come to expect. The Advance Concierge will ensure all provisioning needs are met so the pantry is ready upon arrival; she can also arrange for transportation, dining reservations, island excursions, picnics, and much more. Those who prefer a low-key afternoon can opt for a restful day by the pool at the Hotel Residences or enjoy priority reservations at White Elephant Spa. Customized treatments infused with local ingredients turn White Elephant Spa into a haven for guests amid the bustle that can be Nantucket. The Spa offers guests a number of relaxing treatments that work to calm both mind and body. Just steps away from the glimmering Nantucket harbor, spa guests are welcome to soak up the warmth of the sun on the White Elephant’s Harborside Lawn before or after a treatment.

Guests of the Hotel Residences may enjoy early risers’ coffee and mini-muffins and afternoon port and cheese. When they fancy a more substantial meal or a classic cocktail, priority reservations are available at White Elephant’s Brant Point Grill for an extensive raw bar and some of the island’s premier steak and seafood. Reservations can be made at TOPPER’S at the Wauwinet as well – hop aboard The Wauwinet Lady for sundowners on the way to TOPPER’S where guests will find innovative dishes celebrating the distinct, natural flavors of seasonal foods.
