NASA Space Exhibition To Be Held In Bangkok, The First of its Kind in Southeast Asia

The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is lending its full support to Central Pattana, Thaicom and BEC Tero Entertainment to stage the ‘NASA Space Exhibition’ in Bangkok from 1 December, 2014, to 1 February, 2015. This is the first time that this type of event is being held in the Southeast Asian region.

TAT Governor, Mr. Thawatchai Arunyik said, “This news says  simply everything about the capability of Thailand as the region’s  leader in space technology and initiative, especially as all countries  are moving towards the implementation of the ASEAN Economic Community in 2015. It also brings much joy to the Thai people, being a part of the grand celebrations to mark the auspicious  87th birthday of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej, Thailand’s Father of Technology.”

The NASA Space Exhibition is also set to commemorate the  180th anniversary of Thai-US relations. Held under the theme, a Human Ride Adventure, the event is set to take place at the Bangkok Convention Centre, on the 5th floor of Central Plaza Ladprao.

The exhibition will be divided into four zones: Space technology, Ride, Souvenir, Space Café zones.The largest zone, Space technology will showcase more than 400 pieces of space technology; such as, space rockets, space suit, satellite, space cars, space robots, space menu, space bathroom, space communication devices and space shuttle, as well as operating engines, space electronic devices, space  station and ground station.

Visitors will have the chance to marvel at an amazing range of NASA spacecraft, starting from Mercury and Gemini to Apollo and the Space Shuttle. Russian space technology will also be on display including replicas of the Sputnik satellite and lunar survey rover Lunokhod.

Other highlights include a replica of Neil Armstrong’s space suit, two Titan 1 rocket engines, a scale model of the most powerful rocket ever successfully flown, Saturn V, Apollo Lunar Module cockpit and ascent engine, and a Apollo Command Module replica with a real simulator/trainer interior and a replica of the Command Module’s main hatch.

The Ride zone will focus on thrilling space experiences including G Force Simulator a force of up to 1G to simulate the forces that astronauts experience during a Space Shuttle launch and landing on its return to Earth, The Globe – a circular screen that allows 360-degree views and interactive displays and information about the Sun and planets in the solar system: Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune, plus the dwarf planet Pluto, and Photo Activity Club that offers the chance for visitors to take pictures in space suits while they are experiencing weightlessness in space.The Souvenir zone is set to offer a wide variety of space souvenirs; such as, flight jackets, rocket models, space key chains, pen and tag hanging used in the Mission Control room, copyrighted space items; such as, Angry Bird in Star Wars outfits and books about space missions.

The Space Café zone will provide the opportunity for visitors to experience space atmosphere and special space cuisine; such as, Neil Armstrong’s lunch menu or Charles Duke’s dinner meal.
