Park City, Utah- Reported by Emily Misencik for Elite Traveler, the private jet lifestyle magazine
Although hitting the slopes and sipping gourmet hot chocolate are probably the last things on your mind in August, the winter ski season is fast approaching. Canyons Resort and its marquee hotel, the Waldorf Astoria Park City, are offering some new winter fun packages for the upcoming season. Whether you enjoy shredding the slopes or prefer cooking up a storm in a winter wonderland setting, Canyons Resort and the Waldorf Astoria Park City are offering some great packages to satisfy every snow bunny’s winter preferences.
Canyons Resort, a newly re-imaged property, holds the title as Utah’s largest ski and snowboard resort, featuring 4,000 acres across nine mountain peaks with 182 trails, a 1.1 mile long terrain park and six natural half pipes. Winter sports enthusiasts can take advantage of all the property has to offer with the new Ultimate Mountain Experience package, offered in conjunction with former U.S. Ski Team coach Phil McNichol. The collection of winter sports adventures will include signature fantasy camps and customizable winter sports programs led by world-class athletes including six former Olympians. Fantasy camp weekends are scheduled in January and March 2013 and may include Erik Schlopy’s “Power Turn Experience,” Holly Flanders’ “Women-Only Workshops,” and Phil McNichol’s “Discover Your Potential Weekend.” Guests can also opt for one to three-day customizable packages.
The Waldorf Astoria Park City, located at the base of Canyons Resort, is also offering a range of winter fun packages for guests to enjoying this upcoming winter season. With hot chocolate being the go to drink during the chilly winter months, the Waldorf’s tableside, made-to-order hot chocolate bar at Slopes by Talisker, the hotel’s fine dining restaurant, is guaranteed to be a new winter favorite. Each cup will consist of traditional molinillo, or Mexican hand carved wood whisk, and the finest Valrhona chocolate. Guests can also customize their delectable drink with spice infusions such as cardamom, anise, cinnamon and crème de menthe.
Since Park City is the training ground for winter Olympians, why not try your luck at ice-skating and speed skating with a U.S. National Speedskating Team member? This exclusive experience allows guests to enjoy a private ice skating lesson and learn to speed skate with Patrick Meek, a member of the U.S. National Speedskating Team and an Olympic hopeful! The one-of-a-kind experience is part of the Waldorf’s Majordomo package, which pays homage to the time-honored European tradition of the majordomo, or the head butler of a large estate. The package ensures every guests’ needs and wishes are fulfilled, while offering luxurious add-on adventures.
For those who prefer cooking up a storm in the kitchen, the Waldorf is offering a “Be your Own Chef Menu” of globally-inspired in-room dinners. Slopes by Talisker’s Executive Chef, Clement Gelas, is the master behind the innovative offering that gives guests the opportunity and flexibility to cook in their in-room chef’s kitchens with state of the art Viking appliances. Guests can select menus from different regions, enjoying a Mexican family feast with Oaxacan chopped salad and pork tamales, a South American feast with arepas and shrimp ceviche or a Moroccan-inspired meal with Berber chicken soup and chicken yassa.
