Discovery Channel founder John Hendricks’ 6,000-acre Gateway Canyons Resort—part of the Noble House Hotels & Resorts collection—lies along the Colorado-Utah border.
Gorgeous red rock palisades, one of the highest concentrations of dinosaur fossils, a rich Native American heritage, and a fully equipped onsite outfitter make it a perfect location for the elite adventurer. Brand-new Palisade Casita accommodations (ranging to about $1,700 a night), however, add an unexpected dose of luxury to your adventure. Set apart in an enclave on the resort grounds, each of the 14 casitas (ranging from 875 to 2,075 square feet) sport a chic American West decor with one-of- kind design details like Peruvian carved doors and Turkish rugs.
Relax after a day of exploration in your outdoor garden shower and private patio fire pit. For the truly adventurous, Hendricks, a car fan who maintains a fleet of Porsche, Bentley, and Mercedes-Benz vehicles for guests to use for a Driven Experiences program, has added something new: A Pro-Baja racing truck experience on a challenging off-road course. Guests can ride with a pro or take daylong training sessions to get their own hands on the wheel. The custom Pro-Baja experience is about $2,600 for the day.
