Luxury watch manufacturer F.P. Journe has created the new Octa Sport Indy 500 watch to commemorate Jean Alesi’s participation in the Indianapolis 500-mile car race. Made from an aluminium alloy used in aeronautics, with a black case, dial and rubber strap, the watch has been produced in a limited run of 99 pieces.
Inspired by the Octa Sport, the sporty design features the F.P. Journe Invenit et Fecit signature, alongside the Indy 500, Lotus and Jean Alesi logos, making this a watch closely allied with car racing. A light watch at just 53 grams, Octa Sport Indy 500 combines automatic movement with authentic high horology, offering 120 hours power, central hour and minutes, small second at 5h00, power reserve at 10h30, day/night indication at 8h00 and a large date at 1h00.
By using new processing methods, the aluminium alloy is scratch resistant, anti-corrosive and anti-allergic. The alloy movement still preserves the properties of all F.P. Journe Octa calibers, with a five-day power reserve and a variable inertia balance wheel for optimum yield and stability.
Rubber inserts are fixed to the sides of the case to protect the watch from shocks, in keeping with the design of classic car bumpers. The crown and the folding clasp, engraved with the F.P. Journe signature, are also covered with a rubber coating.
