Cancun, Mexico — Reported by Elite Traveler, the Private Jet Lifestyle Magazine
On Wednesday, March 10th, Mexican President Felipe Calderon was joined by Felix Gonzalez Canto, the Governor of Quintana Roo, and other politicos in an inaugural ceremony that celebrated Cancun’s new beaches and officially concluded the destination’s beach restoration project.
Cancun’s beaches, which are renowned the world over for their natural beauty and brilliant blue waters, just underwent a $71 million investment that delivered more than two thousand tons of pipeline material and over 1.3 billion gallons of sand to the destination. The restoration has brought back 6.5 miles of sand from Punta Cancun to Punta Nizuc, effectively replenishing Cancun’s Hotel Zone seashore.
The project began on September 4th, 2009 and was successfully finished on February 9th of this year. Funding was provided by state and federal governments, local municipalities and private investments. The result? A truly spectacular 131-foot-wide beach oasis.
