Golf fanatics hunting for the most unique courses in the world have an exciting new destination put on their to-do list. Exclusive private island Over Yonder Cay has just finished a course that offers one-of-a-kind play in a stunning exotic setting.
The nine-hole par three course delivers challenges for skillful golfers and novices alike. It takes players on a tour of the 72-acre island’s breath-taking views of the Exuma Chain, a secret retreat for the ultra-wealthy and famous who have increasingly been buying islands in the archipelago.
Luxurious retreat Over Yonder Cay is available for rent to a single group of up to 28 guests, accommodated in the island’s four unique villas punctuating the lush green undulating landscape. The green aspects of the island extend to its high-tech renewable energy system, which operates on wind and solar energy alone to supply the island with all its needs.
In further keeping with its green ethos, Over Yonder Cay has chosen Tour Greens® superior-grade synthetic turf for the course, as it does not require pesticides or intensive irrigation while providing an outstanding and reliable green surface in the tropical climate.
The course design is a collaboration between the professionals at Tour Greens® and the island owners. The inspiration behind it was to provide players with a game that can’t be found anywhere else in the world, and that will prove challenging to all abilities.
“We are excited to be able to offer our guests a pretty unique golfing experience on a surface that matches up to the same level as traditional grass. This course is one of a kind and golfers looking for an ‘in touch’ experience with the rugged elements of the Exumas, playing over and around the exquisite tourmaline-blue waters will be queuing up to enjoy a round on Over Yonder Cay,” said Duncan Hipkin, business development director and island manager of Over Yonder Cay.
“There are few places in the world where you can tee off surrounded by the rugged azure water and limestone landscape on your own private island,” continued Hipkin.
An impressive variety of activities and facilities keep non-golfers occupied too, from floodlit tennis and beach volleyball to yoga and massage, as well as the huge array of watersports available. Rental rates include exclusive access to the island’s facilities and activities, all accommodation, food and beverages, plus seaplane transfers from Nassau or Georgetown.
