When The May Fair Hotel’s Quince Restaurant recently appeared on an episode of ABC’s “The Bachelorette” it got its first taste of reality-TV stardom. Apparently Quince liked the dish because now Executive Chef Silvena Rowe, with her judging role on the new ABC Pilot “Time Machine Chefs”, has come back for a second-helping of the spotlight.
Premiering Thursday, August 16th at 9 p.m. EST on ABC, “Time Machine Chefs,” much like Quince and the May Fair Hotel itself, draws upon a rich historical background while adding a contemporary twist. The show pits top-tier culinary competitors, including Oprah’s longtime personal Chef Art Smith and “Top Chef” graduate Ilan Hall, against both each other and the limitations of historical cooking techniques. Gone are modern appliances and high-tech utensils, even the running water and electricity have been cut-off. Instead competitors are sent back in time armed with only their raw culinary abilities and creativity, all striving to earn the title of Greatest Chef in History.
Who earns those bragging rights? Well, ultimately it is up to Silvena Rowe and her fellow judges—chef/cookbook author Nancy Silverton and the French Culinary Institute of New York City’s David Arnold— but that shouldn’t stop you from developing your own opinion. Tune in next Thursday for a cooking competition unlike any other, not to mention Rowe’s culinary expertise, which has helped to make Quince one of London’s premier foodie-havens.
