Rosewood Hotels & Resorts debuted a sensual escape in Sense, A Rosewood Spa® at Jumby Bay. Set on a private island off the coast of Antigua, this exclusive haven offers guests an oasis of serenity that harmonizes the Caribbean surroundings and colonial heritage of the West Indies.
Sense at Jumby Bay is the sixth Sense spa to join Rosewood’s collection. The first Sense spa debuted at Rosewood Mayakobá in January 2008, followed by Rosewood Little Dix Bay, CordeValle, A Rosewood Resort, The Carlyle, A Rosewood Hotel and Rosewood Sand Hill. Though each spa embraces a specific set of Rosewood protocols and rituals, the Rosewood philosophy, A Sense of Place, guides every element of the spa experience. Designed to enhance guests’ experiences by reflecting the local culture and environment, each and every Sense spa is bestowed with one-of-a-kind ambiance, style and attention to detail. Each is an exceptionally unique refuge – instantly welcoming and individual in character, with treatments and services that honor local traditions in healing and incorporate indigenous natural elements.
Located just steps from the white sand beach, the open-air Sense spa is architecturally engaging, reminiscent of colonial design, while highlighting classic Mediterranean and Caribbean accents. Designed by Robert Moreland of MCM Design, the spa’s unique design is influenced by the islands sugar mill ruin and boasts stone entryways, a terra cotta clay tile roof and tropical gardens that carefully weave throughout the space. Sense spa’s reception and relaxation areas evoke a prevailing air of peace and the open walkways allow refreshing breezes to continually flow, emphasizing the notion that interior and exterior are one.
Sense at Jumby Bay features five sumptuously designed personal spa suites, including a special duet suite, with luxurious linens, individual showers and personal relaxation terraces that offer picturesque views of the Caribbean Sea. Vaulted ceilings and travertine tile floors encompass the treatment areas, while polished marble counters, teak cabinetry and Bose surround sound systems exuding sounds of the rippling waves of the Caribbean Sea create a warm and sensual space.
One of the most prized treatments features handmade hammocks – guests float in mid-air, feeling a sense of weightlessness while massage therapists provide special attention to pressure points in the head, back, hands and feet areas, helping to release years of accumulated tension from the body.
