Paris, France – Reported by Lillian He for Elite Traveler, the private jet lifestyle magazine
Girard-Perregaux has launched ‘The Art of Making Time’ at Christie’s in Paris as part of its Young Watchmakers Tour, with launch guests including Salma Hayek. The exhibition showcases exceptional timepieces from the Girard-Perregaux Museum as well as a special presentation of their young contemporary watchmakers. Workbenches have been installed within Christie’s exhibition space, allowing guests to experience first-hand the intensity and excitement of crafting a mechanical watch.
The young watchmakers featured on the tour are contemporary heirs to the noble line of Girard-Perregaux craftsmen. In viewing their work, visitors are invited to embark on a journey of the evolution of watchmaking across two centuries. Each specially selected young watchmaker is not only a master craftsman of timepieces, but also an example of the brand’s rich, creative dynamism: they are flamenco dancers, rock guitarists and alphorn players. Their personal interests are mirrored in the passion they bring to watch making.
In addition to celebrating its young talent, the exhibition also celebrates Girard-Perregaux’s 221-year love affair with the city of Paris. The brand’s history with the city dates back to the 1889 Universal Exhibition and Paris represents a key stage for the Young Watchmakers Tour, which began last May in New York and passed through Beijing in June. After bringing the work of bright young artisans to every corner of the world, Girard-Perregaux’s ‘The Art of Making Time’ is all set to carry on shining in Paris.
