SOTHEBY’S London has announced that as part of its Important Jewels sale on December 17, 2008, a selection of exceptional pieces designed by top jewelers and contemporary artists will be offered to raise funds for the NSPCC, the UK’s child abuse prevention charity. A number of the works donated will include original designs as well as one-of-a-kind experience like a champagne lunch hosted by a noted jeweler or a personal tour of an artist’s studio.
Among the selections to be auctioned is an exquisite yellow “vermeuil” gold cuff bracelet with numerous interwoven tubular sections by Louise Bourgeois, donated by the artist and Hauser and Wirth.
Anish Kapoor’s Water Ring 1 is also a highlight of the auction. This unique 22ct gold with enamel ring, designed and signed by the artist, is derived from the original Water Ring collection and has been donated by Kapoor in conjunction with Louisa Guinness.
In addition to Anish Kapoor and Louise Bourgeois, the selection of contemporary artists donating works for the NCPCC will include Subodh Gupta and Damien Hirst, as well as works by jewelers like Chatila, Theo Fennel, Chopard, David Morris, Shaun Leane and Queensbee.
