The exceptional five-star Oyster Box hotel, located in Durban, South Africa, has a little-known special touch – its very own choir.
Comprised of 12 members of the hotel staff, The Oyster Box Choir performs for special occasions and VIP welcomes. Carols by Candlelight at Christmas and the arrival of Manchester United during the Football World Cup are just two of the festive occasions where the choir performed to the delight of those attending.
Staff member Karin Dankert plays the role of coordinator for the popular group, taking responsibility for the rehearsal process when the choir is preparing for an event. The style and repertoire of the group is jointly decided by the group as a whole, with contributions from each member. The Oyster Box Choir includes four women and eight men from within the hotel’s outstanding service departments.
The Oyster Box is one of the world’s best loved and most distinguished luxury seaside hotels. Standing majestically on Umhlanga’s prestigious beachfront, overlooking the iconic lighthouse, it provides direct beach access and staggering views of the Indian Ocean. Opened in 1947, it still retains the gracious elegance, glamour and passionate service that made it one of South Africa’s most cherished hotels.
From the impeccable uniforms to the genuinely warm smiles, to the thoughtful details and the splendid luxury of each individually designed suite or villa, guests are treated to an experience as unique as it is magical.
