NORWALK, CT – Tauck World Discovery will launch its first-ever journey to Morocco next year. The in-depth, nine-day itinerary, priced seasonally from $3,790 per person, plus international airfare, * will explore the North African nation’s rich culture, from the coastal cities of Casablanca and Rabat to the rugged Ourika Valley and city of Marrakech in the foothills of the Middle Atlas Mountains. Available on select dates from January through April and from September through November, the journey is virtually all-inclusive. The tour price includes most meals (21 in total), along with luxury accommodations at four incredible properties, airport transfers, all taxes, service charges, sightseeing and entertainment excursions, and all gratuities.
Highlights of Tauck’s new itinerary include a visit to the ancient Roman town of Volubilis, today a UNESCO World Heritage site, whose ruins include communal baths, beautifully preserved mosaics and no fewer than 55 olive presses. Tauck guests will also visit the souks (shops) and medinas (historic areas) of Fes and Marrakech, home to the world’s oldest university and the ornate twelfth-century Koutoubia Mosque, respectively, and both UNESCO World Heritage Sites as well.
Tauck has also included a rich assortment of authentic cultural experiences highlighting the history, cuisine and customs of Morocco. Guests will enjoy a traditional tea ceremony during a private home visit with a Berber family, a riad (indoor garden) dinner, a tour of Le Jardin Majorelle, owned by designer Yves Saint-Laurent and more. Travelers will also view the ramparts of Marrakech during an evening carriage ride in a traditional horse-drawn caleche, and even be treated to a lesson in conversational Arabic.
The launch of Tauck’s new itinerary in Morocco reflects the popularity of the company’s “Exotics” collection of journeys to non-North American and non-European destinations. Bookings for the Exotics collection have posted double-digit increases for 2008 over last year, and 2009 bookings are ahead of bookings from two years ago by 80%. The company’s 2009 Exotics collection includes 27 itineraries in Asia, Africa, Latin America and the South Pacific.
