The Art of Ventures Add Shompole House to Its Luxury Portfolio

By Pardhasaradhi Gonuguntla

Following the huge success of Little Shompole, the latest addition to The Art of Ventures Collection is a home away from home, Shompole House which opens next month. Sleeping up to four people Shompole House offers you unique safari style, stunning views, a relaxed atmosphere, private dining, spa treatments and the opportunity to take part in the many game viewing activities.

Shompole House has taken the innovative and chic design that has become synonymous with Shompole, to new heights. Straddling the ridge above Shompole lodge this split level house is comprised of two bedrooms, ensuite bathroom, swimming pool, dining area, waterfall shower and outside bath.

The master bedroom is spacious and open plan where you can luxuriate in the ten foot bed and plan your day to the dawn chorus. It offers spectacular views across Lake Natron and the Loita Hills stretching to Ol Donyio Lengai, ‘The mountain of God’, and Ngorogoro Crater. The room also offers guests a luxurious outside bath where you can while away your cares and enjoy a starlit night.

The second bedroom is on an elevated platform offering perfect views of the sunrise and the wide expanse of the plains that form part of the Shompole Conservancy. This room is equipped with two queen size beds providing adequate space for two adults to share or a couple. The second bathroom is separate from the two rooms where you can wash away the dust under one of the Shompole trademark waterfall showers.

A cascading waterfall feeds into two swimming pools the larger of which has an infinity edge from where you can appreciate the surroundings. The terraces and decks surrounding the pool offer ample opportunity to enjoy a spot of sunbathing before taking a cooling dip in the pool. The lower terrace leads off to the dinning room where recessed alcoves are candle lit at night and together with tilly lamps offer an atmospheric surrounding to enjoy your dinner under the thatched roof or under the stars. Guests staying at Shompole house also have full access to Main camp so can take their meals in the main dining area as well.

Built largely from local materials, Shompole house is a continuation of the partnership between the Maasai of the Shompole community and The Art of Ventures. Using a local labour force in construction, thus providing employment within the local community, Shompole House has strived to continue the environmentally sensitive principles of Shompole Lodge. Equipped with energy saving lights and solar heated hot water and water pumps Shompole House strives to reduce energy consumption while providing the amenities to make your stay as comfortable as possible.

Shompole House is ideal for a family of four or group of friends who want to while away time in a true African wilderness, enjoy a spectacle of wildlife, immerse themselves in the Maasai culture or simply take a relaxing massage in the comfort of the house.

Shompole House starts from £1300 per night (max 4 persons) on an all inclusive basis with Africa specialist To Escape To (0871 711 5282, www.toescapeto.com). This includes park fees, full board and game drives,
