The Langham, Huntington Hotel & Spa Officially Opens In Southern California

By Pardhasaradhi Gonuguntla

Langham Hotels International announced today the official rebranding of the Ritz- Carlton Huntington Hotel & Spa to The Langham, Huntington Hotel & Spa, Pasadena. The 100-year old historic hotel is the second U.S. property for the international luxury hotel brand founded in 1865. “Langham Hotels are the epitome of timeless elegance and luxury. With a passion for innovation, dedication to genuine service and a focus on igniting all the senses, Langham has distinguished itself as a premiere luxury hotel brand. These characteristics, when combined with 140-years of heritage and world-class management expertise, makes Langham the perfect match for the sophistication and charm of the Huntington Hotel and Spa,” said Brett Butcher, Senior Vice President – Sales and Marketing for Langham Hotels International. “We are thrilled to share our heritage with such a historic property.”

Langham Hotels International has signalled that it will invest US$25 million into upgrading the hotel’s facilities. It will sensitively explore landscaping, upgrading the cottages and ensuring the restaurants and spa remain the finest on the West Coast of the United States. “We will intelligently build on the heritage of the 100 year old hotel to gently upgrade and invest US$25 million in the facilities which will be in keeping with the character of the property and the community within which we operate,” said Martin Nicholson, Managing Director, The Langham, Huntington Hotel & Spa, Pasadena. The Langham, Huntington Hotel & Spa has been a famous historic Pasadena landmark since 1907 and features 380 timelessly elegant rooms and suites including discretely located cottages throughout the grounds. Located on 23 acres of rolling manicured grounds just 9 miles north of downtown Los Angeles, the hotel offers breathtaking views of the San Gabriel Mountains and the Los Angeles environs. It is the only AAA Five Diamond hotel in Pasadena. The Langham, Huntington Hotel & Spa, Pasadena also offers more than 30,000 square feet of meeting and event space. Two of its charming period ballrooms are also recognised and preserved for their architectural significance which has made them a feature in several Hollywood movies and the venue of choice for society and business events. Combined with the exceptionally extensive lawns and gardens under the favourable Southern Californian weather, outdoor events are de rigueur amongst the Pasadena elite.

The Langham, Huntington Hotel & Spa, Pasadena offers a variety of recreational activities. Guests can pamper themselves in the hotel’s award-winning spa, recognized by Travel & Leisure Magazine as one of the top 10 spas in the continental USA, or indulge their taste buds with the exceptional tasting menu in The Dining Room restaurant which has just earned its first Michelin Star. They can also enjoy the popular tradition of The Langham Afternoon Tea in the Lobby Lounge or a drink in The Bar while enjoying the panoramic views of the hotel’s Horseshoe Garden. The purchase of the Huntington Hotel and Spa Pasadena by Langham Hotels International adds a West Coast property to the company’s portfolio and signals the group’s planned expansion within the US. The company opened its other U.S. property, the Langham Boston in 2005.

Background Notes: Langham has a legendary hotel heritage dating back to 1865 when The Langham in London originally opened as Europe’s first Grand Hotel. Over 140 years, this flagship hotel has been at the forefront of sophisticated and gracious hospitality. Today, all Langham Hotels worldwide inherit the same philosophy that reflects elegance in design, innovation in hospitality, genuine service and captivation of the senses creating a truly unique hotel experience. Two distinctive brands are managed by Langham Hotels International (LHI) – The Langham and Langham Place. The Langham offers Enchanting Hospitality – a classic, timeless luxury that one will never forget. Langham Place, the younger sibling of The Langham, delivers Stimulating Hospitality that exemplifies inspirations with an individual sense of vitality and flair. Langham Hotels International manages six luxury properties under The Langham brand across the four continents, namely Auckland, Boston, Hong Kong, London, Melbourne and Pasadena. LHI will further expand The Langham brand with its first boutique hotel opening in Shanghai in 2008. The first Langham Place opened in Hong Kong in 2005, and three new additions are scheduled to open in China – with two in Beijing (2008) and one in Changchun (2009) as well as Langham Place’s first resort in Krabi, Thailand that opened on January 1st 2008. LHI is wholly owned by Great Eagle Holdings Limited, a publicly listed company (HKSE: 41) which was founded in 1963 and was listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange in 1972.
