New York – Scotch whiskey maker The Macallan and photographer Rankin have joined together in an historic alliance of artistry and craftsmanship with the introduction of The Macallan Masters of Photography Collection. This unprecedented collection is a portrait of The Macallan brand, composed by Rankin through 1,000 Polaroid photographs of The Macallan estate, Easter Elchies. Each Polaroid has been consigned to its own bottle of The Macallan Fine Oak 30 Years Old, creating an entirely unique objet d’art that celebrates the artistry and craftsmanship of both single malt Scotch whisky and photography. Seventy-five limited edition bottles will be available in the U.S. beginning in February, 2009.
“The liquid housed in every bottle of The Macallan is truly an achievement in artistry, telling the story of the distillery, it’s people and their undying dedication to the mastery of the single malt,” said Rankin. “As such, it is a privilege to be able to translate The Macallan’s narrative into a visual representation of the brand.”
“Rankin’s images are a testament to The Macallan – its history and its future – providing a portrait of the brand and one moment in time,” said Ken Grier, director of malts for The Edrington Group. “The richness, depth, diversity and quality of the images illustrate every aspect of the estate while communicating its essence in a medium that is both modern and fleeting.”
The catalogue of selected images include snapshots of the distillery, Easter Elchies House and dedicated craftspeople, along with still-lifes of surrounding flora and fauna. These images are contrasted and enhanced with selections featuring artistic nude studies of Tuuli, Rankin’s muse.
