Venice

Venice – known the world over as ‘The Floating City’– was once a powerful republic and flourishing trading port between Europe and the rest of the world. Such a legacy offers visitors a distinctive range of cultural and fun activities. Still a popular destination for the rich and powerful, Venice was once an important stopover for 18th century English upper classes on their Grand Tour of Europe.

Comprising 117 islands connected by 177 canals and more than 400 bridges, Venice is the largest car-free city in Europe so the only way to travel is on foot or via the canals. A ride on a gondola is a great way to see the city and experience Venetian culture.

In the height of summer the Festa del Redentore is an evening of celebration on the Grand Canal, culminating in a spectacular firework display. Of course, no visit to Venice would be complete without a trip to Saint Mark’s Square. Here, you’ll find the impressive Basilica San Marco and the historic Doge’s Palace, together with many designer shops and exclusive cafés.
