Each year, Milan Design Week – Salone del Mobile.Milano – draws avid followers of the design industry to the vibrant Italian city. Returning in 2017 for its 56th edition, the design fair will encompass a series of different exhibitions in pavilions that have been set up in the Fiera Milano exhibition center, showcasing a diversity of innovative products.
As more than 300,000 visitors from more than 165 countries arrive, the city overflows with creativity throughout the week, making it one of the most exciting times to be in Milan. The upcoming edition will encompass five concurrent exhibitions: the Salone Internazionale del Mobile, the International Furnishing Accessories Exhibition, Euroluce, Workplace 3.0 and SaloneSatellite.
The 2016 edition saw the launch of xLux, a section devoted to timeless luxury that’s been reworked in a contemporary vein, and following on from this, the 2017 event will encompass the Classic: Tradition in the Future exhibition, in which a central promenade will lead visitors to space that pays tribute to the knowledge, craftsmanship and skills needed to create classic furniture and objects.
Another of the week’s exhibitions, Euroluce, which is now in its 29th year, then places the focus on lighting, spanning a spectrum of lighting styles and purposes from street lights to theatrical set-ups. And alongside the five key exhibitions, the week will host two events that tie in with two of the event’s themes: lighting and the workplace. While DeLightFuL takes on the theme of Design, Light, Future and Living, the second event A Joyful Sense of Work visualizes the workplace scenario of the future.
Milan’s intrinsic connection to design makes it an appropriate destination for the occasion, with world renowned brands such as the Ferrari and Vespa born here. Taking place from Tuesday April 4 to Sunday April 9, the exhibitions are open to people in the industry from Tuesday to Friday, and members of the public on Saturday and Sunday.
