Edward Thomas, director of Gym Marine Yachts & Interiors, on what clients are asking for
“The perfect superyacht gym requires a degree of forward planning. Maintaining a perfect balance of aesthetics and functionality, while adapting to the constraints of the maritime environment, is a process that revolves around intelligent use of space and equipment choice. We champion products that offer a large range of functionality in a small footprint. And machines like the Technogym Kinesis, which folds away after
use, help maximize available space in any gym.
These days technology permeates every activity we do, and it’s no different in fitness. clients are requesting more and more that we include machines in their
gyms which can measure their progress and update their training goals via IOS and Android apps. People who travel often find it difficult to maintain a fitness routine as they hop on and off their jets and yachts and spend nights in hotels. Fitness technology helps maintain a constant in a traveler’s daily routine—no matter where they are they can still access their personal data and utilize local training facilities to reach their goals. This often means that when we design a gym for a charter yacht we are required to offer a broad range of connected equipment that will suit the majority of guests’ training styles. Of course, on a private yacht the gym is very much a close match to the owner’s own requirements and will often mirror their gym at home.”
