Hotel Jerome, an Auberge Resorts Collection, has a storied past dating back to 1889, yet the landmark resort is consistently reinventing itself with renovated suites, restaurants, a luxe spa and recently, an underground bar, called Bad Harriet, and a Stoli Ice Lounge for the duration of ski season.
The hotel is housed in the historic Aspen Times building (which dates back far before ski getaways were popular), and the talk of the town is undoubtedly its swanky new underground bar and lounge, Bad Harriet, named after the hotel founder Jerome B Wheeler’s wife, Harriet.
The intimate bar serves up craft cocktails and small plates named after strong women in history, including the Macy Valentine, the Harlot, Harriet’s Vice, Pitkin High Tea and the Hemlock. Small bites include elk sausage, Colorado beef tartare and sweets like chocolate soufflé and churro cheesecake.
The chic decor is alpine chic meets Golden Age glamour – expect sumptuous fabrics, like plaid, fleece-lined chairs, dark leather armchairs, old-fashioned portraits of vintage cars and important women in history and bronze-lined light fixtures and tables. It has a neutral color palette so while you’re somewhat transported to another era, the dimly lit bar exudes a sophisticated ambience.
If you’re staying for awhile, visit the Stoli Ice Lounge – back for another year exclusively during ski season this winter. The resident Vodka Czar can tell you everything you’d ever want to know about more 60 premium vodkas from all over the world, which will then be available to taste. Keep warm with a complimentary Canada Goose coat that you’ll wear for the duration of your ice lounge experience and sip on a vodka flight with tipples from the top vodka-producing companies including Sweden, Iceland, Finland, Slovakia, Ireland and England. Run, don’t walk – the lounge is only open until it melts!
