While much of Napa Valley — spa treatments included — is all about wine, wine and more wine, Solage Spa at Solage, Auberge Resorts Collection in Calistoga, California celebrates its unique setting near natural hot springs in its spa. The 20,000-sq-ft oasis includes a bathhouse with geothermal pools (where you can get a glass of wine, don’t worry), as well as an expansive fitness center with an impressive roster of classes, and plenty of indulgent spa treatments. We recommend embracing the Zen spirit of the resort and spending a full day relaxing on property.
Start with the Solage Signature Mudslide, a three-part treatment that will put you inthe right frame of mind. The private treatment begins in a heated room where you will apply a thin layer of the spa’s proprietary mud to your entire body, then lay on a stone bed. The rest and heat gives the mud time to penetrate your skin, detoxifying your body. After a quick rinse in the outdoor shower, you will head to a bathtub for a serene soak. Finally, end in a ‘zero-gravity’ chair where you will be cocooned in blankets and given a pair of headphones with music. Many guests fall asleep, so don’t worry if you do too. End your treatment by booking a massage. You can choose from traditional, Thai, or Shiatsu-Swedish massages, or even make your own aromatherapy oil for a special therapeutic massage.
Blissfully wander to a lounge chair by one of the pools and order a tasty and healthy lunch. After you have woken up a bit, it’s time to experience the Bathhouse. The Bathhouse has an infrared sauna, a eucalyptus steam room and five pools: a cool plunge pool, a magnesium-rich ambient-temperature pool, a large 98-degree relaxation pool and two hot tubs, one mineral, one saline. The staff can recommend different circuits depending on your goals, whether you are looking for vitality, decompression or mindfulness.
