As locations go, you can’t get much better than The Ritz-Carlton, Toronto. Not only does the 53-story tower deliver panoramic views of Lake Ontario, but its central downtown position means top landmarks like the CN Tower, Roy Thompson Hall and Scotiabank Arena are all within touching distance. The 263 key hotel unveiled a dazzlingly contemporary transformation in 2021, including revamped guestrooms and culinary offerings (they kept their coveted cheese cave). The hotel’s 63 suites are among the biggest in the city with The Ritz-Carlton Suite taking the crown as the hotel’s largest.
To celebrate its partnership with Elite Traveler, we spoke to the hotel manager Lukas Boeckmann.
What attracted you to your position at the hotel?
I’ve had the privilege of being part of The Ritz-Carlton family for over 14 years. During my tenure, I had the opportunity to support the team at The Ritz-Carlton, Toronto for three months shortly after its opening in 2011. The spirit of the ladies and gentlemen of the property and the city of Toronto left an indelible mark on me, and I’ve always looked to return to this destination. I am thrilled to be able to lead the operations team here at The Ritz-Carlton, Toronto.
Tell us about a defining moment in your role that sticks out.
It’s challenging to single out just one defining moment as many interactions with our guests hold great memories. However, I find immense fulfillment in hearing guests express that we’ve crafted a memory for them during their stay that they’ll cherish for a lifetime. Establishing these emotional connections with our guests, witnessing their return visits, and receiving their heartfelt gratitude is truly exceptional to me.
And what has been the hotel’s biggest challenge during your time there?
Joining the team in Toronto in 2022 in the aftermath of the pandemic presented its share of challenges. However, the most significant and fulfilling endeavor has been rebuilding our exceptional team of ladies and gentlemen. Their dedication and commitment has been instrumental in the success we have achieved together.
What is it about this suite that separates it from anything else on offer in the region?
Our Ritz-Carlton Suite, nestled on one of the highest floors, boasts unparalleled views of Lake Ontario, the picturesque islands dotting the waterfront, and the iconic CN Tower. These panoramic views are exclusive to our luxury hotel, setting us apart as the premier destination for discerning travelers. Furthermore, this suite is part of The Ritz-Carlton Club Level. in addition to the personalized services of the dedicated concierge team and 5 food and beverage presentations throughout the day, The Ritz-Carlton Club experience is built around exclusive local partnerships, such as Art Galleries, yachting experiences and other local businesses.
What exciting plans do you have for the hotel that you can share with our readers?
Currently, we are embarking on a journey of design enhancement and introducing a new concept into our outlet space, as well as performing enhancements to our lobby over the next month to offer a refreshed entrance to our guests in the summer. In addition to the physical our focus remains on sustainability and fostering wellness experiences that transcend expectations. I’m immensely proud of the efforts we’ve already made in these areas and look forward to the next steps that will continue to elevate the guest experience at our property.
