Riva Teases Largest Vessel in its History: A 230-ft Superyacht

Constructed for a specific customer, this new ship will push the boundaries of sustainability and performance.

By Toby Louch

Italian shipbuilder Riva – part of the Ferretti Group – has just revealed what will be the largest flagship vessel in the company’s history, a 230 ft superyacht called the Riva 70 Metri.

This brand new vessel aims to stand out from the competition with its ‘state-of-the-art technology solutions, refined design and peerless comfort’. Formed from a steel hull and aluminum superstructure, the Riva 70 Metri looks to blend both performance and sustainability, thanks to its hybrid propulsion, heat recovery technology and PTO/PTI system.

Leaps have also been made in acoustic comfort, with this new vessel emphasizing new technologies that reduce noise and vibration levels while also improving the stabilization system.

“Riva 70 Metri promises to set the bar for thrilling experiences in the years to come,” said Ferretti Group CEO Alberto Galassi. “She’s a superyacht of timeless beauty that will take the magnificent universe of Riva’s style features and detailing into a new dimension, combining it with cutting-edge navigation and environmental sustainability technology. A manifesto of style, design and innovation, this spectacular flagship will lead the fantastic fleet of new Riva masterpieces with majestic elegance.”

The owner of this new vessel worked closely with Riva’s design team, which in recent years has been headed up by a collaboration between Officina Italiana Design, a firm founded by Mauro Micheli and Sergio Beretta, in addition to the Product Strategy Committee which is led by Piero Ferrari and the Ferretti Group Engineering Department.

“The sophisticated and extremely selective owner had a very clear idea: to build a timeless boat with classic lines and a green spirit for cruising in a style that fully respects the sea,” said Mauro Micheli, chief designer, and Sergio Beretta, CEO at Officina Italiana Design. “He had been impressed by the Riva 50 Metri and dreamed of a design inspired by it, one dominated by aesthetics and beyond the fashions and market logic that so often influence the creation of a new product. So we embraced this challenge with enthusiasm and conviction because these values represent our firm’s DNA and form part of our design philosophy.”

The Riva 70 Metri will be built at the Riva Superyachts Division in Ancona, Italy, where Ferretti Group constructs all of its 160 to 300-ft vessels.
