The Ritz-Carlton Bacara, Santa Barbara is getting ready for a big renovation.

By Bradley Cance

The Ritz-Carlton Bacara, Santa Barbara is situated on an idyllic spot, with the resort stretching across 78 acres of prime Californian real estate. Two beaches, three infinity edge pools and a delightful 42,000 sqft spa, ensure this hideaway is one of the finest properties that can be found anywhere in the United States. And its about to be taken to the next level with an extensive refurbishment expected in early 2025.

With the big renovation just months away, Elite Traveler spoke with general manager Bradley Cance, on what brought him to California and what guests can expect from this resort refresh.

What attracted you to your position at the hotel?

The Ritz-Carlton Bacara is one of the premier resorts in the brand’s entire portfolio. The Santa Barbara destination is incredible, and the resort’s location is unique, iconic and historic.

Tell us about a defining moment in your role that sticks out?

Learning that we have over 800 ladies and gentlemen who work for our resort to create excellence every single day. The impact we have on thousands of guests is outstanding and it helps drive the brand’s reputation.

And what has been the hotel’s biggest challenge during your time there?

We are excited about a future improvement plan starting January 2025. This is the first resort-wide improvement plan in the last 10 years, and it is a thrilling time to be the General Manager of an oceanside resort that will be celebrating its 25th anniversary next year as well. We employ an incredible number of students from UC Santa Barbara, which we love but it also presents opportunities around training brand new ladies and gentlemen our brand standards, and credible customer service guidelines.

What exciting plans do you have for the hotel that you can share with our readers?

The Ritz-Carlton Bacara, Santa Barbara, the premier oceanfront resort along the Gaviota Coast, announces a captivating revitalization that will take place per its ongoing commitment to enhancing the guest experience. The revitalization is projected to occur from January to May 2025, and a new energy and ethos will be infused into the property – an organic design to create a peaceful sanctuary. The enhancements will discreetly take place villa by villa to minimize any inconvenience. During this period, updates to the lobby and The Bistro will also be made, with little impact on the guest experience and exceptional dining available at other property locations, such as San Setto, Angel Oak, and ‘O’ Bar + Kitchen.

The beautiful new design throughout the property will pay homage to the region’s historic California style and its original tastemakers. Each generation layers on their stories and leaves indelible marks upon the land they call home, inspiring the relaxed and elegant Hacienda style. The new design will genuinely convey the story of this unique Village on the Bluff and its history, highlighting the serenity of the surrounding nature and the stunning Pacific Ocean.

Personal Reasons for moving to California, specifically Santa Barbara?

I am here with my wife Kris and young son Cooper. Kris and I both have family in California and we are so excited to raise Cooper here and be closer to our families.
