La Dolce Vita Orient Express Welcomes Chef Heinz Beck

Chef Beck’s carefully curated menu will take inspiration from Italy's cultural and culinary heritage.

By Grace Taylor

Set to launch in Spring 2025, La Dolce Vita Orient Express will transport travelers on an opulent rail journey across Italy’s most breathtaking regions. Adventurous travelers will be able to choose between eight distinct one- or two-night itineraries, guiding guests through enchanting Tuscan vineyards, UNESCO sites like Matera, Rome’s bustling streets and beyond.

And the luxury rail’s most recent announcement ensures that stunning Italian vistas won’t be the only highlight of each trip; La Dolce Vita Orient Express has announced the appointment of Chef Heinz Beck, of three Michelin-starred La Pergola in Rome, as the leader of the train’s culinary program.

Chef Beck’s carefully curated menu will take inspiration from Italy’s cultural and culinary heritage, spotlighting iconic regional dishes like Sicilian arancini and Venetian tiramisu. The seasonal, locally sourced ingredients will mirror the unique flavors of each landscape, creating a sensory journey through Italy and grounding guests in the country’s rich landscapes.

“La Dolce Vita Orient Express project represents for me and the Beck and Maltese Consulting team a wonderful opportunity to create a new path to disclose the Italian gastronomy culture,” said Chef Beck.

He added, “The guests will have the chance to discover our beautiful country not only through its landscapes but also through our menus: from the early morning until the midnight snacks. We want to spread the Made in Italy knowledge in a new different way, showcasing the different traditions of each region so the passengers will be able to create a stronger and deeper connection with the territory.”

Travelers will be able to enjoy Beck’s curated dishes in the train’s sophisticated dining car, which channels the glamor of the 1960s with its eclectic decor – geometric designs, sage-toned lacquered walls and ambient lighting from intricate sconces. The old-world opulence of the dining car carries into the train’s accommodation, where guests can choose from 12 deluxe cabins, 18 suites and one extra-luxe La Dolce Vita Suite.

In addition to their rail experience, Orient Express will soon extend its influence in Italy with the opening of two hotels: Orient Express La Minerva in Rome and Orient Express Palazzo Dona Giovanelli in Venice, which are set to welcome guests in late 2024 and 2025 respectively
