Cape Grace Refashioning Is Complete

By Pardhasaradhi Gonuguntla

On the eve of the 5-star Waterfront hotel’s 12th birthday, Cape Grace celebrates the completion of an engaging 6-month refashioning process.

Starting with all rooms and suites in April this year, floor by floor a new life and soul unravelled itself as the months rolled over. With well-respected Cape Town interior designer Kathi Weixelbaumer firmly committed to the hotel’s vision for local handcrafted originality, a landmark level of individual hotel design has been achieved.

Interior décor that embraces the charm of the Cape’s history and beauty of the region’s botanical kingdom now offers a richness that invites travellers to discover and connect with this fascinating region. By sourcing antiques piece by piece, Cape Grace has invested in its new look with much of the new décor created around these spectacular pieces, often juxtaposed with elements of modernity resulting in each space being unique to the next.

EMBRACE LOCAL TALENT
Reflecting the Cape region by supporting local talent is now firmly a trademark of the hotel’s approach to luxury. It is after all, a team effort of local small businesses co-ordinated by Weixelbaumer Design that ensured exceptional once off handcrafted items creatively combined to ensure depth, texture and an engaging style. The use of local talent is a delightful story of humanity and reiterates the hotels core values and vision to create a hotel unlike any other – an original experience which touches the heart of the traveller as it supports the spirit of the community.

ENJOY A LOCAL TAKE ON MODERN HOTEL DINING
Last to be transformed, but not least in stature, the culmination of the absorbing layers of new décor can be found on the ground floor… flowing from the captivating reception and library areas, guests can now enjoy dining in Signal, the hotel’s new and enthralling restaurant.

With panoramic views of Signal Hill, Signal provides a welcoming setting on the water’s edge in which to enjoy fresh produce, not only when the city’s notorious noon day cannon signals lunchtime, but at any time of the day. Aged Yellowwood furniture, in contrast with crisp white table linen set aside a magnificent 30metre hand painted wall tapestry depicting the scene of Table Bay, all skillfully positioned in the glow of eccentric hand-crafted chandeliers, sets the atmosphere for a new level of hip hotel dining.

The style of food, created by a talented culinary team is notably Cape with international flair. The menu presents a unique combination of flavours incorporating influences from the many cultures that have called upon the Cape during its history, namely French Huguenots, British settlers as well as Dutch and Asian traders.

The great hotels of the future will have distinctive ways of reflecting their unique styles – Cape Grace has revealed theirs.
