The World Travel Awards, known as the Oscars of the Travel Industry, named Corinthia Palace Hotel & Spa Malta’s Leading Hotel for the third consecutive year. Held in Antalya, Turkey, the award ceremony recognizes brands that push the boundaries of industry excellence.
Corinthia Palace Hotel & Spa outshines in the latter quality. Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, was present at the 1968 inauguration of the hotel and company; the property was the first Corinthia hotel to open under the brand name, which now has nine properties worldwide.
A Who’s Who of the travel industry was present at the World Travel Awards’ glittering gala, including CEOs of leading travel companies, government officials, and tourist board chiefs. More than 500 organizations across Europe entered this year’s competition, which spanned 125 categories. The evening’s explosive entertainment was provided by Turkish pop star Aydan Kaya and violin rock sensations Fuse.
The World Travel Awards launched in 1993 to acknowledge and recognize excellence in international travel and tourism industries. Votes are cast by 183,000 travel professionals, including travel agencies, tour and transport companies and tourism organizations in over 160 countries.
“During times of economic uncertainty world-class brands come into their own, continuing to grow market share whilst competitors flounder,” said Graham E. Cooke, president and founder of World Travel Awards. “This is amply demonstrated in the number of top honours won by the world’s top hotels and travel organisations this year.”
