British Columbia, Canada – Reported by Elite Traveler, the private jet lifestyle magazine
Canada’s answer to Napa, the Okanagan Valley has quietly been exploding in recent years with over 80 world-class golf courses, abundant outdoor activities and many high-quality wines. Now it has lodging to fit the gorgeous setting, with the 2010 opening of Sparkling Hill Resort, set on a ridge overlooking Lake Okanagan.
The 149-room luxury hotel has a wellness theme, and incorporates Swarovski crystals—some 3.5 million of them—into every aspect of its design, shimmering in fireplaces, chandeliers and guest rooms. The centerpiece is the 40,000-square-foot KurSpa with 48 treatment rooms, over 100 therapeutic options and the first Cryotherapy cold sauna in North America. Fine dining here has a heavy “locavore” focus, and the vast majority of ingredients are sourced from within 100 miles.
Spanning nearly 175 acres, the great outdoors is another big attraction at Sparkling Hill, which offers guided hikes on seven miles of trails and award-winning golf at nearby Predator Ridge. Depart from the resort’s helipad for heli-fishing excursions on pristine mountain lakes and heli-skiing adventures on untouched powder. The window-side soaking tub in your 1,200-square-foot penthouse (there are three) will do wonders for dissolving any activity-related aches (from $1,000 a night).
