The French Riviera is dotted with legendary hotels and grand villas, but perhaps none enjoys as stellar a reputation as the Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc. Perched at the tip of Cap d’Antibes, the property has attracted royalty and the artistic and literary elite since 1870, and was the inspiration for Gausse’s Hotel in F. Scott Fitzgerald’s Tender is the Night.
The jewel in the hotel’s crown, the 1,076-square-foot Eden-Roc Suite (from about $5,923 a night), underwent a renovation in 2011 with the addition of a wooden pergola and an outdoor Jacuzzi on the palatial 2,260-square-foot terrace with magnificent views of the Mediterranean Sea. Inside, the suite’s new décor and furnishings evoke a relaxed luxury with pistachio-colored walls, Provence flower-printed curtains and white couches in the bedroom, dressing room and lounge, which opens out onto the terrace. The two white marble-laden bathrooms feature a choice of Bamford and La Prairie toiletries.
Especially popular during the Cannes Film Festival, the suite has played host to Madonna, Sharon Stone, Robert Redford, Bill Cosby and many more. Abiding by the hotel’s famous cash-only policy, guests used to wire money ahead of their stay, but thankfully the Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc now accepts credit cards.
