April 5-7
The Hong Kong leg of the international rugby world sevens circuit is always hotly anticipated by rugby fans and non-fans alike.
Rugby stalwarts from across the world competed in the ‘jewel of the crown’ of the rugby sevens series, with sixteen teams participating in this increasingly popular, fast-paced, shortened form of the game.
Started in 1975, the game became so popular that Hong Kong Government Stadium, the venue for this tournament, had to be rebuilt in 1994. Since then the game has grown in popularity at home and abroad.
This year marks the 39th edition of the tournament and was equally enthralling as the 38 that preceded it. New Zealand easily beat England 26-7 to lift the HSBC Hong Kong Sevens trophy.
