San Diego resort The Grand Del Mar has been voted the number one hotel in the United States, the number one luxury hotel in this country and the number 11 luxury hotel worldwide by readers of travel booking and review website TripAdvisor.
Additionally, the hotel was ranked the number 14 hotel worldwide – based on more than 700,000 hotels evaluated in the website’s annual Travelers’ Choice awards.
The TripAdvisor awards coincide with today’s much anticipated release of the coveted Forbes Travel Guide rating. For the third consecutive year, The Grand Del Mar has achieved a trio of Five-Star awards from the venerable travel guide for lodging, The Spa at The Grand Del Mar and for Addison, the resort’s signature restaurant.
These awards come on the heels of William Bradley, executive chef of Addison, winning the second annual Culinary Masters Competition by Robb Report, an international luxury lifestyle magazine.
“Our resort just celebrated its six-year anniversary, and we are more than honored to have received such remarkable recognition in a relatively short amount of time,” said Thomas Voss, president of The Grand Del Mar.
In addition to its TripAdvisor status, The Grand Del Mar is the only resort in San Diego, and one of a handful of hotels in the country, to receive three Five-Star designations from Forbes in 2014.

This marks the third year that The Grand Del Mar has attained Five-Stars for lodging; the fourth year that The Spa at The Grand Del Mar – a 21,000-square-foot, Renaissance-inspired resort showpiece – has received Five-Stars; and the sixth year that its highly acclaimed signature dining venue, Addison, has earned the sought after designation.
Further affirming its status as one of the country’s leading luxury hotels, the resort retained its AAA Five Diamond rating for the fifth straight year, while Addison earned the AAA Five Diamond distinction for the sixth consecutive year.
“Forbes Five-Star and AAA Five Diamond rankings set the industry standard for excellence, while the TripAdvisor accolades comes directly from our guests,” Voss added. “The combination of these awards is a powerful testament to the hard work of our very talented and gracious staff.”
