Jamie’s Italian Opens its Doors in Causeway Bay

By Zahra Al-Kateb

The hotly anticipated Jamie’s Italian Hong Kong officially opens its doors to Hong Kong’s hungry diners this month. Seating 200, the exciting new restaurant is located on the 2nd floor of Soundwill Plaza II – Midtown, Tang Lung Street, in the bustling foodie district of Causeway Bay. Welcoming everyone, Jamie’s Italian offers guests a casual dining experience with a fun and relaxed neighbourhood feel.

The menu presents simple, fresh, and honest food made with traceable and sustainably sourced ingredients. Guests may also feast their eyes on a number of culinary spectacles throughout the restaurant; including pasta chefs at the fresh pasta station, chefs at the antipasti bar crafting delicacies from the colourfully cured hanging meats, and the dynamic open kitchen, with numerous chefs creating various dishes, all in full view of its thronging diners.

Jamie’s Italian menu features favourites such as, sharing planks of cured meats, cheeses and seasonal vegetables, delicious twists on much-loved classics, such as the famous Prawn Linguine and Tagliatelle Bolognese, as well as exciting dishes lining the specials boards, including Squid-Ink Spaghetti, Truffle Tagliatelle and Free-range Chicken with grilled garlic and rosemary. Known for incorporating local elements into the design of each of its restaurants, Jamie’s Italian Hong Kong is no exception and has been designed to reflect the neighbourhood in which it resides.

Designed by UK firm MBDS, the restaurants’ colourful interiors and enticing elements of food theatre situated throughout the restaurant, bring it to life and with its understated shipping container parts located either side of the bustling open kitchen, Causeway Bay’s heritage as a fishing village is paid a subtle homage. A long, bold graffiti wall adds both to the dramatic design of the restaurants’ interior, as well as to its laid-back look and feel.

Featuring a unique Hong Kong-inspired artwork by Jamie Oliver’s long-time pal Barnaby Purdy and spanning half of the restaurant, Barnaby’s artwork features a colourful, dynamic representation of a formidable dragon wrapping itself around Hong Kong Island, to protect it from an alluring siren and her storm. The restaurant also includes a separate piece by local Hong Kong artist Barlo, featuring a colourful and vibrant take on a traditional Chinese Foo Dog, wrapping itself over the ceiling and down the opposite wall.

Since the first Jamie’s Italian restaurant opened in 2008, the group has now grown to have over 40 locations in the UK and from Europe through to Asia. Hong Kong’s addition to the family willsee General Manager Stella Cheng and Executive Chef Adrian Kavanagh take the helm.

“We are extremely proud of our Hong Kong Team,” says William Lyon, Chief Executive of Big Cat Group. “We have many passionate, energetic individuals who have excelled throughout our training program and are now ready and waiting to welcome our Hong Kong diners.”

Jamie Oliver is full of excitement and passion for his latest Asian venture, as only the second footprint for the restaurant in the region, “I am so excited to be opening Jamie’s Italian in Hong Kong – it is such a vibrant city with a clear enthusiasm for food and I’m confident that our honest, passionate approach will wow and inspire our guests. I can’t wait to visit the restaurant, but until then I wish our brilliant new team the best of luck with the opening. I can’t wait to show the lovely people of Hong Kong what Jamie’s Italian is all about.”
