Travel consortia Virtuoso has honored New Zealand at the top of their Hot List for the biggest year-over-year growth.
New Zealand tops the list by a wide margin with an increase of 196 percent growth year-on-year. In second place Chile has an increase of 103 percent.
Indonesia, Hungary and Hong Kong make up the rest of the top five.
Virtuoso Senior Vice President, Consumer; David Kolner contributes the increase to several factors. “Fueled by the popularity of the Lord of the Rings films, New Zealand has become a standalone destination in its own right rather than being tacked onto an Australia trip for a few days,” says Kolner.
“It’s often a first trip abroad for a family, and is appealing to everyone from foodies to adventure-seekers.”
Gregg Anderson, General Manager Americas and Europe for Tourism New Zealand, is thrilled with the result. “This is a great indication that Tourism New Zealand’s increased focus and investment within the Virtuoso network and the premium sector is really paying off”, says Anderson.
“It also highlights the top premium accommodations and experiences that New Zealand offers.”
The Hot List was announced last week at Virtuoso Travel Week, where a record-breaking 4,420 delegates attended from 96 countries.
