Cocktail of the Week: Chivas Exclusive Lebua Blend

By Olivia Cuccaro

By Olivia Cuccaro

When choosing our cocktail of the week, we think the setting is just as important as the beverage itself. This Friday’s pick is exclusive and experiential – a one-of-a-kind Chivas blend served at the highest whisky bar in the world.

At an impressive 800 ft up, Alfresco 64, a Chivas Bar, is now open at The Dome at Lebua. For the first time in the brand’s storied history, Chivas Regal has partnered with a hotel, Lebua Hotels & Resorts, to craft an exclusive blend of Scotch whisky to be enjoyed high in the sky.

Led by master blender Colin Scott, the Chivas Exclusive Lebua Blend was created by laying down the finest whisky – distilled in 1985 or earlier – in a selection of casks including American Oak. Following years of maturation, each whisky was individually nosed to select the best for the exclusive blend, then left in a first fill sherry butt for an additional nine years. Along with the sherry character of its a single cask, the blend has rich fruity notes and smooth flavor. Look out over Thailand’s capital city while you sip a custom scotch neat – at $1,000 a glass.

Any whisky aficionado who wants to taste the blend for themselves will have to move quickly – only 96 bottles of the Chivas Exclusive Lebua Blend are available, served by the glass. The limited-edition blend won’t be shipped or distributed outside of the highest whisky bar in the world. If you can’t jet to Bangkok right away to try the collaborative creation, you can still visit the new bar at Alfresco 64, a Chivas Bar, during your next trip.

On the 64th floor of the Tower Club, the appropriately named Alfresco 64 serves the limited-edition blend in addition to signature blends from Chivas Regal and other premium whiskies. At more than 2,100 sq ft, the bar is divided into three sections, each designed in its own opulent style. The indoor area, designed to resemble a yacht cabin, features lacquered rosewood flooring and sunken seating with a wooden bar counter. For VIPs, the Heritage Room can be used for a variety of special events like private parties and – you guessed it – whisky tastings. Most notable is the bar’s outdoor area which offers panoramic aerial views of the Chao Phraya River from behind a glass railing.

“With the Lebua blend at  Alfresco 64, A Chivas Bar; the worlds highest whisky bar, we at Lebua and the Chivas brothers jointly are very proud to add a new chapter not only to the hospitality industry but also to the  luxury industry” said Deepak Ohri, CEO of Lebua Hotels and Resorts, in speaking to Elite Traveler.

The Chivas Exclusive Lebua Blend will only be available at Alfresco 64, a Chivas Bar, Tower Club at Lebua, Bangkok, Thailand. For more information and reservations, please call +66 0 2 624 9999 or visit lebua.com.
