  • .75 oz Del Maguey Vida mezcal
  • .75 oz Cherry Heering liqueur
  • .75 oz lemon juice
  • .75 oz Aperol
  • 2 dashes of orange bitters

To create this cocktail of the week, combine Del Maguey Vida mezcal, Cherry Heering liqueur, lemon juice and Aperol in a cocktail shaker. Shake and strain over large ice cube in a rock glass and then garnish with orange zest and whole star anise.

The season has changed, but to associate only brown spirits with cooler weather is the old way of thinking. At Elite Traveler, we love mezcal for its versatility; Tequila’s agave-based sister works well in a fruity summer cocktail (like this one from Melrose Umbrella Co), but its defining smoky flavor allows it to effortlessly transition into fall. At Rosewood Washington, DC, even a bar named for its exceptional rye whiskey cocktails has embraced mezcal this season.

The lemon, Aperol and orange bitters add some tangy, citrus flavors, and mellow the smokiness of the mezcal. We also incorporated cherry flavors for extra sweetness and warmth. It’s the perfect cocktail to enjoy while cozying up indoors.”

The sumptuous leather chairs in The Rye Bar at Rosewood Washington, DC practically invite you to cozy up with a Oaxacan Winter cocktail. The backlit onyx bar and wood paneling create a warm atmosphere out of the chilly air following a day spent taking in the foliage around the capital. After a nightcap, curl up by the fireplace in the refined Presidential Suite. Take in views of historic Georgetown and the C&O Canal from the 1,300 sq ft suite, which comprises a king-size bedroom, bathroom with circular marble tub and rain/steam shower, foyer, living room, dining area with seating for five, office area, powder room, stocked pantry and walk-in closet.
