Design Inspiration: Suite 67 at Belmond La Residencia

This story originally appeared in the July/August 2018 issue of Elite Traveler.

Surrounded by enchanting gardens, towering trees and pretty flowers, Belmond La Residencia is right at home in Deià, the creative hub of Mallorca. The inspirational scenery has drawn in the world’s artistic spirits for a long time, and the newly opened Suite 67 is no exception. British designer Matthew Williamson, renowned for his use of psychedelic color and elaborate patterns inspired by nature and travel, has designed the bohemian one-bedroom suite. The intention is to bring the outside in so guests can connect to the natural surroundings while still respecting the distinctive Mallorcan rustic aesthetic. The walls are adorned with botanical artworks and original paintings of the island’s birds, with striking pops of electric color and details such as hand-blown Spanish glass from local artisans.
