Peru’s contemporary hacienda-style hotel, Inkaterra Hacienda Urubamba, has now given luxury travelers even more reason to head to its secluded spot in the Andean landscape by launching the newest Inkaterra organic spa.
Now, during a stay in this pocket of the breath-taking Sacred Valley between Cusco and Machu Picchu you can benefit from restorative therapies at the rustic-chic Mayu Spa for which design inspiration was taken from the Andean architecture, with its name ‘Mayu’ being taken from the Quechua word for river.
In a space that’s designed to make the most of its views across the property’s organic gardens and surrounding forest, this new wellness center is home to a plunge pool, four therapy rooms and a dry sauna. Providing a soothing wellness experience amid the forested mountains and fields, treatments here reflect the spa’s surroundings, using 100-percent natural products made of locally sourced ingredients such as the native medicinal herbs.
Treatments range from de-stress and deep tissue massage to Andean hot stone therapy and reflexology. Massages incorporate ancestral techniques and the hot stone therapy used stones from the river.
In the 43 years Inkaterra has been hosting guests at its lodges across Peru, the hotel collection has been at the forefront of sustainable tourism initiatives, placing much of its attention on preserving Peru’s landscape, nature, customs and cultures. Each individual lodge is a reflection of this mission bringing a celebration of the local landscape and culture together with conservation and community initiatives. Mayu Spa again champions the Inkaterra ethos as it embraces the surrounding landscape, while fusing the use of native ingredients with local wellness traditions.
