L’INCONTRO RESTAURANT AT THE HOTEL SAVOY FIRENZE

By Chris Boyle

The cutting-edge dishes of two-Michelin-star chef Fulvio Pierangelini have made L’Incontro Restaurant one of the most fashionable meeting places in Florence.

During the summer, dine on L’Incontro’s terrace, perfectly situated on the lively Piazza della Repubblica. Executive chef Remo Vannini selects seasonal produce from Florence’s quality food markets to ensure fresh vibrant flavors. Try the delectable beef fillet with balsamic vinegar sauce and vegetable caponata followed by the mouthwatering calvados soufflé with caramelized apple. Before your meal, enjoy an aperitif at the L’Incontro Bar, currently listed as part of the ‘Bond Bar’ circuit, in recognition of its elegant atmosphere and superb classic Martinis. The innovative staff add new cocktails to the menu each month. L’Incontro can be hired for private events and exclusive private dinners.

Residing in the historical Palazzo della Arte dei Giudici e Notai – palace of judges and notaries – the restaurant’s frescoes include the earliest recorded depiction of Dante and Boccaccio. History buffs will be delighted to learn that the palace’s Roman foundations can be viewed in the basement. Offering traditional Tuscan dishes, including Pappardelle with Chianina beef ragout and T-bone steak, Giovanna Iorio prefers the title of ‘cook’ to ‘head chef’. There are many creative dishes on the menu, such as celery soup with pineapple and scallops, or stone bass fillet with red beetroots and stewed savoy cabbage with capers. The restaurant’s cellar includes wines from smaller producers in addition to great Italian and French labels. Gothic candleholders, exposed brickwork and white linens create a romantic atmosphere. For a private tour of the palace or to organize a private event, contact Restaurant Manager Silvia Del Priore.
