Mexico’s AAA Five Diamond resort Grand Velas Los Cabos has long been considered a privileged place to sip hand-crafted cocktails with a view over the ocean, but now the luxury hotel is elevating the experience guests have here by appointing the spirits expert Nestor Daniel Can Jones as its head mixologist.
Drawing on more than 18 years of experience in mixology, Jones will oversee the resort’s craft cocktails and signature beverage offerings across its four bars, from the brand new Mezcal & Tequila bar and the sophisticated Koi Bar to the oceanfront Sky Sports Bar and Miramar Bar, which both provide an idyllic spot for watching the sun go down.
Before taking up this position Jones was the beverage manager of The Cape, a Thompson Hotel in Cabo San Lucas, prior to which he acted as the corporate mixologist for Karisma Hotels & Resorts, heading up the beverage program and new openings in Riviera Maya, Jamaica, Dominican Republic, Croatia and Colombia. During his career, he has trained under the master mixologist, sommelier and Diageo ambassador Steve Olson and master tequilier Ricardo Cisneros, and in 2017 he was a semifinalist in Bacardi’s Legacy Cocktail Competition and Tequila Patron’s Perfectionists, which bring together the best bartenders from around the world in pursuit of the perfect cocktail. In 2014 and 2015 he was a semifinalist in Diageo’s World Class Cocktail Competition.
Proving his impressive cocktail crafting credentials, Jones promises to create an exceptional bar experience at the hotel.
