Tired of only dressing your everyday attire, Louis Vuitton is making sure your dreams are wrapped in its signature monogram, too. The French maison is redefining beauty sleep as we know it, releasing two versions of its historical bed trunks that have been designed in collaboration with Pharrell Williams, Louis Vuitton men’s creative director, and Nicolas Ghesquière, artistic director of the women’s collections.

Louis Vuitton’s bed trunk was first designed in 1868 to help travelers sleep more comfortably on their global expeditions, which was then patented in 1885 by Louis’ son, George. The house first announced the rerelease of the iconic design with the unveiling of the Classic Bed Trunk last April, a modern iteration that features the signature Monogram canvas exterior and a clever, foldable aluminum and beechwood bed frame that transforms effortlessly into a comfortable sleeping space. The trunk also comes with a thick, four-part mattress topped with memory foam, promising the weary traveler a restful night’s sleep, no matter where in the world they may be.
Now bringing a fresh take on a classic, the modern successors as envisioned by Williams and Ghesquière offer a contemporary twist on the original 19th-century design. Louis Vuitton’s menswear designer, Williams, has been directly inspired by one of the historical bed trunks from the maison’s archives. Echoing the original 1872 canvas, Williams’ bed trunk showcases a distressed striped pattern, which also appears on the trunk’s interior.

The bed trunk’s jacquard mattress and pillow also feature the “LV Lovers” embroidery, which is quickly becoming William’s signature touch as seen on his most recent collection with the French fashion label. Meanwhile, the addition of blond wood to contrast against the black aluminum hardware add a contemporary, industrial feel.
Similarly, Ghesquière’s bed trunk features a futuristic exterior, inspired by his cruise collection from 2023, meanwhile, the interior and mattress are decorated in a dreamy, floral pattern, similar to one seen on Louis Vuitton’s Spring-Summer 2018 womenswear collection.
The Nicolas Ghesquière Bed Trunk will be on display at the Louis Vuitton store in Saint-Germain-des-Prés, France, from September 20 to October 6, while the Pharrell Williams Bed Trunk will be on show at the Savoir Rêver Louis Vuitton event at the Hôtel Cheval Blanc in Paris from September 21 to October 4. (Both by invitation only.)
