With its namesake restaurant making our list of the Top 100 Restaurants in the World, The NoMad Hotel is already an Elite Traveler favorite. Add a high-end retail experience to the North-of-Madison-Square-Park property, and it’s a Manhattan must.
Hailing from Canada, Want Apothecary has opened its first US location at The NoMad Hotel in New York. The boutique offers an intimate shopping experience, carrying sought-after international fashion brands as well as beauty lines. Find clothing from Acne Studios, Jil Sander, Aspesi, Totême, Fleur du Mal, M. Martin and Xu Zhi, or peruse an array of luxury travel accessories on a dedicated Want Les Essentiels wall. The accessories line, with its own store in New York’s West Village, is known for its Italian calf leather goods made with Turkish organic cotton and signature two-tone zipper.
As the name would suggest, the boutique also features an apothecary counter with beauty brands like Byredo Parfums, Susanne Kaufmann, Grown Alchemist, Cosmetics 27 and Verso Skincare. The meticulously curated selection of brands promise the desired high-end New York shopping experience without the trek around the city. A motto of “timelessness, quality and a modern interpretation of the past” reflects the boutique’s intention to provide an expert resource for guest’s wants and needs in a nostalgic setting.
Designed by Maria Rosa di Ioia, the 1,700 sq ft retail space embodies the old-fashioned apothecary with a style complementing the hotel’s classic feel. The interior is warm and “neighborly,” with Walnut, Bianco Carrara marble and brushed copper accents. Herringbone floors, custom-designed dark oak tables and Roll & Hill smoked bulb chandeliers complete the look and honor the charm of the turn-of-the-century property.
