Designers Create Jewelry Collection to Mark 50 Years of New York City Ballet

Derek Lam, an avid supporter of New York City Ballet, and Jamie Wolf, a former dancer with the company and jewelry designer, share a deep appreciation for Balanchine. The acclaimed choreographer’s signature balance of clean, modern, and feminine aesthetics is a shared cornerstone of both Derek and Jamie’s design philosophies.

nyc ballet_To celebrate New York City Ballet’s Fiftieth Anniversary at Lincoln Center, designers Derek Lam and Jamie Wolf have collaborated to create a jewelry collection inspired by legendary choreographer and New York City Ballet co-founder, George Balanchine.

The inspiration for each piece in the Black and White Collection is derived from just one component of Balanchine’s body of work – a particular movement, costume, or set in a ballet. This approach has been an exciting departure in the design process for both Derek and Jamie.

nyc ballet2_Traditionally, Derek and Jamie’s respective women’s wear and jewelry collections evolve from a singular theme or central idea, however, this collection aims to capture individual elements of Balanchine’s masterpieces that make his work so identifiable. The final result is a collection that is as original and modernly cohesive as the ballets that Balanchine crafted many years ago.
