Girard-Perregaux has delved back into its extensive archives to relaunch a classic: the Casquette. For the latest iteration, the Swiss Horology Maison has partnered with French fashion house Saint Laurent together creating the Casquette 2.0 Saint Laurent 01.
When the watch was first released in the 1970s, it set a universal standard for frequency with its Caliber GP-350 quartz movement and revolutionized digital watch technology. It was considered an innovator beyond its time, and re-established Girard-Perregaux’s standing as one of the world’s most impressive horologists, capable of seamlessly blending heritage with future-forward design concepts.

Now, over half a century later, boundaries continue to be pushed: While this isn’t the first time the Casquette has been re-released (it was only last year that the Casquette 2.0 was launched), the partnership marks the first time Saint Laurent has entered the world of watchmaking. Saint Laurent creative director Anthony Vaccerello is said to have selected this particular model due to the significance the period of release played for both Maisons.
Based on the signature shape of the original, the Casquette 2.0 Saint Laurent 01 is reimagined in ceramic and black PVD-treated grade 5 titanium, with its sleek, all-black look a standalone style even now. Like the original, it is equipped with a quartz movement and a LED display showing hours, minutes, day, date, month and year. Wearers can even check in on a second time zone.

The lightweight strap is also in black ceramic with a rubber interior adding extra comfort (as does the curved case back).
The release falls within the Saint Laurent Rive Droit universe, a separate portion of the brand curated by Vaccerello himself. Highly limited to just 100 editions, the watch will be exclusively available in the Paris and LA Saint Laurent Rive Droite stores for $6,700, as well as a small number online.
