Hidden away in Bali’s luscious rain-forests, Capella Ubud is a gloriously playful take on a 19th-century expedition (the vision of designer Bill Bensley, whose mantra ‘the odder, the better’ certainly applies to this resort). The hotel is an uber-luxe take on camping and is made up of 22 one-bedroom tents and the two-bedroom lodge. The Lodge has the best views of the Keliki Valley, best enjoyed from the large wooden terrace that protrudes out into the forest. The suite has a decidedly indoor/outdoor setup; the heated indoor pool flows to the outside and the living area follows suit. There’s two bathrooms, one with a Japanese tub and one with a hand-hammered copper tub. Guests of The Lodge have access to a whole host of complimentary extras, from activities with the camp rangers to a photoshoot.
