Fortune Cookie Projects, run by Mary Dinaburg and Howard Rutkowski, will host the first Showcase Singapore starting Sept 9, 2008. Twenty-three major international galleries have been invited to exhibit the best work available on the primary and secondary markets from around the world.
The participants in Showcase Singapore represent the most exciting work available internationally. The strategic aim of the Showcase is to provide Asian collectors with the opportunity to see major work by internationally-recognized artists and to offer Western collectors and art professionals a platform to experience new cutting-edge work being produced by artists from around the region.
The Singapore government is heavily invested in making Singapore an art destination. With world-class hotel accommodations, shopping, restaurants, clubs, exhibition venues and sites for art, Singapore has the infrastructure to attract and support tourism from around the world. As a hub for the entire region, it is geographically the perfect place for the Asian sector to congregate – reaching outward from Southeast Asia to the Sino corridor, Asia Pacific, the Subcontinent and the Middle East. Most importantly, it is the most international of all of the cities in the Far East and with English as the lingua franca, it is also one of the most user-friendly.
Together with the Biennale, Fortune Cookie Projects is actively involved in developing a VIP program for international visitors, which will include access to all VIP Biennale and Showcase events. The organizers are also working with collectors and professional art organizations from overseas to make Singapore the main destination for the thousands of visitors who will attend the more than five art biennials and triennials taking place in Asia this September.
Being uniquely and officially tied to the 2008 Singapore Biennale promises to make Showcase Singapore an exciting and successful event for participants and visitors alike.
