RAFFLES HOTEL

Raffles hotel entrance

Raffles is, without doubt, Singapore’s most famous and best-loved hotel and was declared a National Monument in 1987.

After its multi-million dollar restoration and reopening in 1991, the hotel is now the jewel in the crown of the city’s hospitality industry, renowned for its service as much as its facilities. Founded by four enterprising Armenian brothers, the hotel opened in 1887 as the Beach House and was later re-named in honor of Sir Stamford Raffles, the founder of modern Singapore. Over the years the hotel has evolved into one of the world’s most acclaimed grand hotels and welcomed countless celebrities, including Michael Jackson, Elizabeth Taylor and Charlie Chaplin.

TOP SUITE SARKIES SUITE

Why we love it: Elite Traveler loves this hotel because it has continuously upgraded itself but still managed to do so without losing its charm, and the same can be said about its top suite. The two-bedroom Sarkies Suite offers a generously sized living area, private dining room, and charming veranda. It has been named after the family name of the first owners of the hotel. Oriental carpets complement exquisite teak flooring, while art enthusiasts can enjoy the wonderful collection of original 19th- and 20th-century prints, drawings and photographs that have been installed throughout. Special amenities include RafflesAmrita Spa products, a Bose stereo and Tiffany silver flatware.

The living and dining rooms are particularly spacious at this hotel, and amplified further by the private balcony.
