Elite Recommends – Madrid’s Ultimate VIP Experiences

By Chris Boyle

Elite Traveler has selected the most exclusive VIP experiences

Viavinum is a member of ASTA, the American Society of Travel Agents. Viavinum specializes in customized VIP wine and gastronomy tours.

Admire beautiful landscapes and charming hidden villages while visiting wineries and vineyards that produce the highest quality wines. Travel in style in chauffer driven Lamborghinis, Aston Martins, Ferraris, Maseratis and Bentleys, or take a fresh outlook at wine production and float over vineyards in a hot air balloon. Private wine tasting trips are tailored to the Elite Traveler’s personal tastes, with the opportunity to be taught the art of gastronomy by professional chefs, play golf on Spain’s top golf courses, or watch Real Madrid from a VIP box.

To escape from the hustle and bustle of Madrid, request a customized tour of Toledo, 70 kilometers south of the city.

A designated UNESCO world heritage site, Toledo is the optimum destination for both a culinary and a cultural experience. First, sample the wine and olive oil of La Mancha in the province of Toledo, followed by an indulgent Michelin star lunch. Then enter historical Toledo, a one time capital of the Spanish Empire. Historically a city of three cultures, Toledo’s twisting medieval streets accommodate mosques, synagogues and churches. The city is crammed with original artwork by Europe’s great masters, from Velázquez to Rubens and most famously El Greco, who dwelt in Toledo for 27 years. Visit the Catedral Primada Santa María de Toledo to see El Greco’s illustrious El Expolio de Cristo – the disrobing of Christ. As a hunting region, the best gastronomy in Toledo is traditionally game, particularly quail and partridge. Toledo’s real delicacy however is marzipan, so ask your tour guide to direct you to the best marzipan houses, and savor the sweet almond treat.

Cuisine: Catalonian

Learn to cook with Michelin-starred chef Sergi Arola, who trained in Ferran Adrià’s Kitchen Laboratory in Barcelona.

Ferran Adrià was named chef of the decade by Restaurant Magazine and his restaurant El Bulli was ranked second in the world in 2010. Arola was previously head chef at Michelin starred La Broche, and his exceptional creativity has earned him two Michelin stars for his current restaurant, Sergi Arola Gastro. For an elite only experience, book a cooking lesson with Arola for 10-12 people. Participants cook alongside Arola and his staff in the restaurant’s professional kitchens and use state-of-the-art cooking equipment. The intimate size of the class and Arola’s natural teaching ability guarantee a unique learning experience. Following an afternoon sautéing, steaming and sizzling, everyone sits down together to eat their creations and listen to Arola explain recipes with fascinating anecdotes and expert culinary tips.
