Founded in 1868, the Tonhalle Orchestra is the oldest symphony orchestra in Switzerland and its home, the neue Tonhalle, is regarded as one of the finest concert halls in the world.

Under the direction of its chief conductor, David Zinman, the Tonhalle Orchestra has become one of Europe’s leading ensembles. Conductors such as Ton Koopman, Kurt Masur, Jonathan Nott, Frans Bruggen, Charles Dutoit, Vladimir Jurowski and Andris Nelsons as well as outstanding soloists such as Julia Fischer, Murray Perahia, Maria Joao Pires, and Christian Tetzlaff will be performing with the Tonhalle Orchestra in the 2011/2012 season. Elite travelers can take advantage of exclusive backstage tours, including all areas of the neue Tonhalle, introductions and pre-concert talks, a special percussion workshop with the musicians of the orchestra and VIP treatment in the Maestro-Lounge. In addition, VIP guests will get to meet and greet with director Elmar Weingarten and conductor David Zinman.

Kunsthaus is Zurich’s major museum of fine art with a collection that includes around 4,000 paintings, installations, sculptures and more.

Elite Traveler can confirm that this year the prestigious private collection of the Nahamad family will have its first exhibition at the gallery. Swiss artist Franz Gertsch is also a major feature of this year’s exhibition, with a retrospective of his work including 30 large-format paintings and woodcuttings. The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York will also be moving its Photography of Sculpture exhibition to Kunsthaus. Exhibitions featuring the most recent work of Roman Ondak and international up-and-coming star Haris Epaminonda will be of particular interest to experimental art enthusiasts.

The Stadium Letzigrund was originally built in 1925 by Zurich Football Club, but was later bought by the City of Zurich and underwent a major transformation.

In 2005 refurbishment began to revive this as one of the grandest stadiums in Europe, and in 2007 it officially opened. It has already played host to some of the most iconic football games, recently in 2008 with the UEFA Euro Championship matches between France and Italy. The stadium is also home to the Swiss Super League Zurich Football Club and the Grasshoppers Club Zurich, which play every week – a perfect event for sports fanatics while in the city. More than just a sports venue, some of the biggest musical acts on the planet perform here, including U2 and Jon Bon Jovi, attracting up to 50,000 spectators during open air concerts. As well as private boxes being available during major events, elite clientele can rent the stadium as a convention center or even for birthday parties, dinners and exhibitions. Private tours as well as receptions with cocktails can be arranged upon request, while the stadium has its own caterers with a high level chef de cuisine and professional staff.
