San Francisco

A city as varied, cosmopolitan and unique as the City by the Bay almost defies description.

Founded by Spanish colonists in 1776, the city began its explosive growth after the California Gold Rush of the mid-19th century, a period that began to define the city. As a result of the huge fortunes made overnight and the variety of nationalities flocking to the city, San Francisco gained a reputation for flamboyance: a reputation the city still holds today.

The 20th century saw San Francisco as the host nation for the ‘Summer of Love’ and the city became famous for its free thinkers and liberals, as well as its large gay population, which had steadily increased since World War II. Today, San Francisco is one of the principal tourist destinations in the United States. A trip to the city is certain to be a fun-filled vacation; San Francisco is packed full of interesting activities, amazing sights and wonderful experiences. The nightlife and restaurant scene is highly rated, but with so much to see and do, just being in San Francisco is a joy.
